Hi Everyone! I started this meetup because there are so many books I want to read, and I think that discussing them with others will make it more fun, challenging, and fulfilling. My academic background is in Philosophy and Anthropology . . . but there is so much more to discover! This is a meetup for people who love learning and thinking about the world around them: sociology, history, philosophy, evolution, primatology, cognitive science, cultural studies, biographies, political science, curre …

The Tasty Book Club pairs good books with good food. We read a variety of genres: silly books, smart books, memoirs, literary fiction and, yes, we even once read a book about werewolves. We pair the book with food or countries that appear in the book. If a book takes place in Greece, we eat Greek food. If we read a book that takes place in the American South, we go for BBQ. And so on. We aim for diversity among our book choices. Everyone is welcome to suggest books, but preference is given to b …

I know everyone says their book club is different, but this time we mean it! I want to be in a book club that doesn't read Oprah's book of the month. I have no interest in reading Chicken Soup for the Soul, Twilight, or Eat, Pray, Love . I want to read silly books, smart books, graphic novels, romance novels, classics, books made into movies (and visa versa), books about movie stars and rock idols. I want to do this with a group of like minded individuals who don't adhere to the formulas of con …
Advice from Cher Horowitz from the classic film Clueless: "You should read one non-school book a week." This advice applies not only to high school girls, but also to lesbians, queers, gay ladies. The LA Gay Lady Book Club is for women who want to read one cool book a month, and we'll be taking suggestions on what to read from the club's members. The books we read may or may not be lesbian/queer themed, but the Ladies who attend probably will be ;) (gay/lesbian/bi/queer, trans family welcome) Re …

I want to start a book club based more on the unusual and interesting urban paranormal books, as well as comics, some mystery, and anything different. No politics, biographies or Oprah book club books allowed. This is for fun and unusual books. I wanted to start this because I was tired of seeing all of the Oprah books, the romance books or the political book clubs. There are so many fun and interesting books out there why be limited to just one style? Reading is one of my favorite pastimes so …

Meet kindred book lovers in a local Meetup Book Club! Fiction or non-fiction, paperback or hardcover, you?ll read a new book every 8 weeks. We meet every 8 weeks in different locations around Los Angeles. At this time there is not a permenat location for our Book Club. We don't have a particular format on the books we read. This Book Club Meetup is open to everyone, that is interested in getting together and discussing books. The only thing that I ask as an organizer. If for you to be prepar …
If you want a book club where we pick a book, have an outlined discussion and only talk about the book, this is not it! Most BOOK clubs are of the "You must read this specific book to hang out with us" variety. Our club, on the other hand, uses whichever title we've picked as more of a jumping-off point and we end up discussing a whole slew of different books, authors, and genres. Sometimes, the subject just goes into an off the wall place. You never know what we end up talking about or doing. T …

You’ve experienced the page turner. The book that’s so compelling it forces you to silence calls, stay up later than your early morning permits, and respond in a brusk and irritated tone to any and all commitments calling you away from the story. A story that’s so good, it makes you want to do something about it. Who’s up for a book club that’s one part reading, one part discussion, and one part action? Let’s read Bukowski one month and hold our discussion in the central library that Bukowski fr …

This book club meets once a month on Thursday and has been going strong for almost 2 years. We are a group of women interested in talking about current issues and meeting other like-minded people. Sick Minds is not your traditional/original book club. No romance novels, best sellers, Oprah's list or tear jerking books allowed. This book club will be reading bizarre and entertaining books that are also humorous and sometimes considered disturbing to the common folk. Death: A Life by George Pendle is one example. It is a humor book written in a memoir style about Death. One of my sons helped me name the group after I was trying to define a sick mind. He actually did something sick that I …
If one of the many things you miss from college are the class discussions of books that either moved you or that you thought were complete trash then this group is for you! This group is for people who have recently graduated or just people in their 20s or early 30s who would like to get together once or twice a month over drinks or coffee to discuss a book we all read together. First book recommendations are welcome and then we can decide the next book choices at the meetups. I thought this wou …

Are you an open minded, fun and cool woman? Are you looking for a good book discussion? Do you care about social activism? If so, we are the book club FOR YOU! You'll read a different book every month, from a long ago lost "Classic" to the "It" book flying off the shelves (and everything in between). We are active in the community, making book donations to the local Libraries, giving money to charities. We also may have a meeting once a month between our traditional meetings just to catch …
Lovers of the mystical and metaphysical, and those mildly curious are welcome to join! There are various topics that fall under mystical and metaphysical interests. Together we can choose books that teach us about the spiritual and the magical in our world and beyond. The idea is to meet monthly to discuss a book, topic, or chapters of a book. We welcome even those who didn't read or didn't finish. Books are our springboard for information and conversation. Members of this book club are encourag …
There is a seemingly endless supply of books on the writing craft, so instead of feeling guilty because I'm working or doing the laundry instead of reading an enlightening book on the craft, I thought I'd set up an actual monthly time and place to fulfill this need and have writers to talk to about the book! We will read everything from books on writing fiction to poetry to screenwriting. Whatever catches our fancy that month. I'd like to find organizers in several areas of the city, then we can …

We are here to make new friends through books. We meet up regularly at a restaurant, a cafe, a park etc. to exchange books with each other. If you have any book you already read and you are ready to give it away, bring it with you to our next meetup, get a new book and connect with new friends!! Along our book connection with each other's great company, let's also enjoy some great food in a restaurant, or at a picnic. We are currently reading the following book and we will be having meetups to d …

A book discussion group for members and friends of the GLBT community. Although the focus here is on reading and discussing books of specific interest to the community, we will read books from other genres, as well. We'll meet on the first Friday of every month to discuss our current selection and select a book for the following month. We'll also schedule occasional MeetUps at museums, concert venues, and restaurants. Whatever strikes our collective fancy.
